About Sonic Mural

WHO AM I?

I feel very fortunate to have been a teenager in the 60's, witnessing the birth of The Beatles and The Stones etc, and like so many of my age, I just couldn't help being influenced by the whole new sound explosion that was just on the horizon.

Channel 4 TV

By the time I left school, I had formed my first pop group, 'The Huskies', and in spite of the name, we had a popular following of loyal fans in the county of Worcestershire, though we 'gigged' up and down the country supporting all the big names of the time, The Kinks, Walker Brothers, The Moody Blues, Cream, Spencer Davis Group, Small Faces, Manfred Mann etc.

Prior to 'hanging up my plectrum' and shortly before settling down to get married etc, I chanced upon a meeting with Clifford T Ward, who lived nearby, and through a mutual friend we formed a 'Recording Group' specifically to support Cliff with a CBS contract he had just signed. The first single under the name of 'Simons Secrets', namely 'Naughty Boy' was reviewed favourably in the 'record papers', and played on Radio One by Tony Blackburn and John Peel. Unfortunately it was not to be, and so the same with the subsequent singles, though a few years later Cliff had the long overdue break he deserved, when he reached the Top 10 chart with 'Gaye' and after that, his popularity and success were assured, though the general concensus is that he always deserved more!

Sadly as his fans will know, he passed away at christmas in 2001 after many years struggling with M.S. Such a loss to the music world, though gladly his understated genius will live on through his 'work'...

Channel 4 TV

These days I record under the name of Sonic Mural, swopping my guitar for a Synth and a PC and have had my work played by radio stations in Holland and Canada, and more recently on Perfect Match for Channel 4 TV.

It is now 2007, the previous text was written in 2003, and for those readers with a slight ‘Anorak’ disposition (not unlike myself), I have a snippet of info’ that will explain an anomaly regarding the latest Album.

‘Café del Solway (volume one)’ my 7th Album has just been completed. The idea for this work was formed in late 2004, and so I had the blank cd’s printed with the year 2005, even though I had not written the tracks, I assumed by mid 2005 the project would be complete...and then I became ill.

Having suffered with M.E. since 1990, I have been dogged by ‘Post Viral Chronic Fatigue’ ever since, but this time my new symptoms were very different. Investigations revealed I had a rare cancer called Insulinoma, a tumour in my Pancreas, (one in a million get this disease apparently). Anyway 20 months later, surgeons, medicine and nature have repaired me, and I am back to my P.V.C.F state.

So, as all the tracks (except 3 from a previous Album) were written this year, they are shown as copyright 2007 on the Album ‘insert and inlay’ card. Okay you can take the Anorak off now! There is more in the pipeline...watch this space.
